SCADA systems are used in various industries, such as waste treatment and water management. They allow equipment control over long distances and the means to monitor, gather, and process real-time data. SCADA systems consist of supervisory computers, communication infrastructure, programmable logic controllers, remote terminal units, and human-machine interfaces.
A SCADA Communications Technician ensures reliable communications of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition communication systems by performing preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance throughout all components of the networks. This position requires two years of college-level coursework in electronics, information technology, or computer networking and at least one year of experience maintaining Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Bradley Gartman is a SCADA Communications Technician at Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS). He is programming a GE MDS Orbit radio and testing it on a test RTU control panel. Once the radio has been programmed, it will be installed at a remote lift station with a SCADA system.
