They operate and maintain equipment and processes in water treatment plants and use critical thinking skills for troubleshooting and problem-solving. Operators can work in areas such as water treatment, wastewater, distribution, and reuse. Becoming a certified operator involves developing strong skills in mathematics, mechanics, and science. Entry-level operators handle tasks like monitoring equipment and recording data; experienced operators have more responsibility and take on leadership roles within the plant.
