Vactor Truck Drivers: Keeping Our Infrastructure Flowing
06-04-2024

Vactor truck drivers play a crucial role in maintaining our infrastructure. These operators use specialized vehicles equipped with powerful vacuum systems that help keep our streets, sewers, and drainage systems clean and functional. During times of heavy rain, Vactor truck drivers clear clogged drains and remove debris to prevent flooding on our streets and highways. Vactor truck operators can also utilize a technique called hydro excavation, which uses high-pressure water jets as a means of non-destructive digging, exposing utility lines, repairing underground infrastructure, and locating buried pipes.
If you have a valid commercial driver’s license, completion of the eighth grade, and a minimum of one year’s experience operating a Vactor truck, a career with the Mobile County Merit System as an Equipment Operator II (Vactor) is the job for you!
